Shelby American has announced the release of their newest limited-edition Terlingua Mustang, designed to pay homage to the Terlingua Racing Team legacy. The car, which will be based off of a 2015-2016 Ford Mustang GT, will be limited to 75 total units (50 for customers in the United States and 25 for international buyers) and will boast more than 750+ horsepower. Some of you might recall the 2007 Terlingua Mustang Package, which was based on a V6 Mustang.

Unlike its predecessor, the new Terlingua Mustang is all about 5.0L V8 power.

In a press release issued by the company, Shelby American said, “Ever since [we] introduced the highly sought after, limited edition V6 Terlingua Mustang in 2006, fans of the Terlingua Racing Team brand and eponymous jackrabbit logo have wondered when a V8 version would be available. In cooperation with Bill Neale, one of the Terlingua founders and Terlingua Racing Team crest designer, that wait is over.”

In all, specifications for the Shelby Terlingua build upon the company’s new Shelby Super Snake Mustang.

“We chose to develop the Shelby Terlingua using the bullet-proof 5.0L V8 engine in the Mustang GT based on the thousands of hours we spent in product testing and development on the track,” said Akos Feher, Vice President of Operations Shelby American. “The new Mustang GT is an incredible platform that gives Shelby an opportunity to offer serious enthusiasts even more performance wrapped in the iconic Shelby Terlingua Racing Team banner.”

One Fast Rabbit!

In addition to its 750 horsepower, courtesy of the Mustang’s Yellow Whipple Supercharger, the new Terlingua Mustang is equipped with Ford Performance Half Shafts, Ford Performance 3.73 Gears, a Coolant Reservoir and HD Radiator, in addition to Camber/Caster Plates and a Borla performance exhaust; the perfect addition to a rumbling V8 soundtrack.

When it comes to Terlingua Mustang handling, the car features a Shelby by Eibach adjustable suspension, and rides on Black 20-inch WELD Racing Wheels with high performance tires. Stopping power is improved thanks to the car’s Yellow Brembo 6-piston front (4-piston rear) brakes, complete with a brake cooling kit.

As for its drivetrain, buyers can choose to equip their Terlingua Mustang with either a manual or automatic transmission. Manual transmission Terlinguas come with an optional Barton short-throw shifter. Other features of the Terlingua include optional Sparco race seats, an optional 4-point harness and roll cage, as well as a carbon fiber 3-gauge dash pod for oil, fuel and boost readings. Buyers can even opt for a Terlingua Katzkin upholstery upgrade.

Historic Jackrabbit Styling

What really sets the Terlingua apart from other Mustangs is its exterior features. Each car will feature the historic Terlingua Racing Team Crest.

“The Terlingua Racing Team Crest has been part of racing lore since 1965 when a Shelby G.T.350R won its first race in Texas,” said Doug White, Ford Performance Parts manager. “A Terlingua Racing Team Shelby then won the 1967 Trans Am Series with Jerry Titus behind the wheel.

That spirit has returned. It’s thrilling that the new Terlingua Shelby uses some of our most advanced technology to give those who value its rich heritage an even more driver-focused experience.”

And last, but most definitely not least, in honor of the Terlingua Racing Team legacy, all cars will carry an autograph plaque of Bill Neale, Carroll Shelby and Jerry Titus, the 1967 Trans Am Champion winning driver.

“The Terlingua Racing Team was founded in the 1960's by a rough and ready group who was as passionate about playing as we were about racing,” said Bill Neale. “From our wild weekends on the Rio Grande in South Texas to racetracks across the world, the Terlingua Racing Team took no prisoners. The team crest and racing livery that I designed came to symbolize that raucous, irreverent lifestyle that thumbed its nose at the establishment.”

A Flexible Racer

No doubt, the new Terlingua Mustang follows Shelby's goal of offering up track ready cars that offer the versatility of daily driving machines.

“The development of the Terlingua represents a renewed emphasis on race-inspired hot-rodding by Shelby American,” said Keith Belair, Shelby American Chief Operating Officer. “We expect to have more of that to offer the Ford Mustang customers in the coming year.”

The Shelby Terlingua Racing Team Mustang starts at $65,999, not including the base Ford Mustang GT. For more information, visit Shelby.com, email Sales@Shelby.com, or call (702) 942-7325.
