When you are working on a Microsoft Word document, it is frustrating to type a section of text only to realize that a lot or all of it should be in uppercase. Instead of having to retype it, Word makes it simple to automatically change some or all of the text to a different case, such as all caps.

There are a couple of ways to change the text case in Word depending on the version you use, but only one of them lets you use a keyboard shortcut to immediately change the case of the highlighted text.

The fastest way to change highlighted text to all caps is to highlight the text and then press the keyboard shortcut Shift+F3. You can use Ctrl+A to highlight all the text on the page.

You might have to press the shortcut combination a few times because text in the document might be in some other cases, like sentence case or all lowercase. This method works with Word 2016, 2013, 2010 and 2007. In Office 365 Word, highlight the text and choose Format > Change Case and select Uppercase from the drop-down window.

Another way you can do this is through the Home tab on the ribbon. In the Font section is a Change Case icon that performs the same action on selected text. In older versions of Word, this is usually found in the Format menu.

Don't Have Microsoft Word?

Though it's simple to do this in Microsoft Word, you don't have to use Word to change text to all caps. There are plenty of online services that perform the same function.

For example, Convert Case is one website where you paste your text into the text field and choose from a variety of cases. Select from uppercase, lowercase, sentence case, capitalized case, alternating case, title case, and inverse case. After the conversion, you download the text and paste it where you need it.
