Does watercolor paper differ on the two sides and is there a 'right' and a 'wrong' side? Which should you be using? Well, while there is indeed a difference between the two sides of a sheet of watercolor paper (and how much difference depends on the brand and type of watercolor paper), which is the 'right' or correct side to paint on depends on what you like best.

One side does have more texture (or 'tooth') than the other, and this is what most artists use, but there's nothing to stop you using the smoothest side if you prefer the results this gives you.
