Sikh baby names beginning with P listed here, like most Indian names, have spiritual meanings and connotation in relation to God and Guru. Some Sikhism names are taken from the scripture of Guru Granth Sahib and others are regional Punjabi names. Spiritual names starting with P or Ph may often be used as either a suffix or prefix and combined with other Sikh names to create unique baby names. Most Sikh names are appropriate for either boys or girls.

In Sikhism, all girl's names end with Kaur (princess) and all boy's names end with Singh (lion).

Pronunciation Tips

English spellings of Sikh spiritual names are phonetic as they originate with the Gurmukhi script. Different spellings may sound the same or may indicate different pronunciation.

Gurmukhi Consonants: Letter P is pronounced without air. Letter combination Ph indicates an aspirated sound pronounced with air. Many of the names beginning with Ph are interchangeable with Sikh names that begin with F. Double consonants are pronounced twice. Chh is pronounced like sh.

Gurmukhi vowels: Names having a double 'aa' phonetic vowel have a long sound and may have a meaning that is different from a short sound, single 'a' phonetic vowel. The single 'a' may just be the simplest spelling. Within a name, 'i' has a short sound; at the end of a name, 'i' has a long sound pronounced ee.
