80s Sitcom Reunion Shows That Need To Happen

Check out these 80s sitcoms that should have a reunion show ASAP.

The 1980s was a decade full of awesome music, clothes, movies and TV sitcoms. Cheers, Who’s The Boss, and Family Ties are just a couple great sitcom examples from that time.

It has been years since these shows have been on air, so it's the perfect time to start thinking about reunion shows. Although reboots are all the rage right now, we haven't heard of any reboots for these fan favorites. A reboot of these shows would give fans a chance to reconnect with the characters and feel a sense of nostalgia, even if it is for only a short time.

Family Ties

It has been over 25 years since the Keaton family was on TV. Although the cast reunited on the Today show for Family Ties' 25th anniversary in October 2015, a reunion show has never happened. Fans want to know what Alex, Mallory, Jennifer, Andy, Elyse and Steven up to these days. Sadly it is unlikely that a reunion for this iconic family television show will ever happen. Before the final show was written the cast actually wanted the Keaton family to be killed to ensure a reunion show could not happen. Perhaps a little more time will change their minds, maybe for the 30th or 40th anniversary?

Kate & Allie

It has been over 25 years since fans said goodbye to pals Kate & Allie and let’s face it fans deserve a reunion after the last season. The show focused on now single friends Kate and Allie, who lived together while raising their kids. It was a hilarious show about two strong women who didn’t need a man, even though they may have wanted one. During the final season the entire show premise changed when Allie got married. The original dynamic was gone, despite the friendship still being there. A reboot would allow dedicated fans the opportunity for some closure with these characters, despite the series' less than satisfying ending.

Who’s The Boss

After years of wondering whether Tony and Angela would finally end up together, Who’s The Boss ended with a long-awaited kiss between the two characters. Although it sounds more like a drama than a sitcom, Who’s The Boss was one of the best of the 1980s, and not just because it introduced fans to Alyssa Milano. The show was funny, entertaining and always a great escape from reality. It would be a real treat for fans to see what Tony and Angela are up to today. Plus, it is about time that fans found out the answer to the most important question of all - what ever happened to Samantha Micelli?

Laverne & Shirley

It has been 33 years since the hit TV show Laverne & Shirley was on the air. The show began in the 1970s but continued to grow in popularity into the 1980s. It was about two single friends and their rather loving but unusual group of friends. These ladies were a laugh a minute up until the last season, which was anything but hilarious. Due to Cindy Williams decision to suddenly leave the show, her titular character Shirley was quickly written out. As a result, the entire final season focused on Laverne and the rest of the gang. The vibe was never the same and fans, as well as the shows characters were not given the send-off they deserved. A reunion show after all these years later could finally right that wrong. Sadly due the issues surrounding Williams' departure it seems like a long shot that this dream will become a reality.

Cheers

It has been almost 23 years since Cheers was the bar where everybody knew your name. Although the cast recently reunited for the James Burrows special, fans would love to see Cliff, Norm, Sam, Woody, Rebecca, Diane and Carla back in the bar they all called home. The show ended on a good note, but it would be awesome go back to Cheers for one more drink. Can you imagine getting the chance to get the gang back together? Would Sam still be single? Do Norm and Cliff have bar stools at a different bar? What is Woody up to? Nobody knows but the possibilities are endless.

The Wonder Years

It has been 23 years since fans said good-bye to Winnie, Kevin and the rest of The Wonder Years family. Fans mourned the loss of this coming-of-age show without any real closure. The show was cancelled after the finale of the sixth season when the powers that be decided the shows premise had changed too much now that Kevin was almost 17. Since there was no real good-bye, it would be amazing to see what happened to Kevin and Winnie. Are they still together? Did they move on to other loves? Those questions will likely never get answered as Fred Savage recently told People magazine “you can’t go back.”

Happy Days

Although Happy Days first aired in the 70s, the Cunningham clan was the TV "It" family well into the 80s. The show may have changed over the series' whopping 11 seasons, but the integrity and good clean humor did not. Plus the show introduced fans to a TV icon, the Fonz. What would life be like for this wholesome family and the super cool Arthur Fonzarelli today? Would Fonzie still wear his famous leather jacket? Despite the fact that the cast has reunited a couple of times to honor the show, and a few recently circulated rumors of a reboot, an actual TV reunion show has never happened.

MASH

It has been 33 years since fans watched as the 4077th was taken down and the beloved crew consisting of Hawkeye, BJ, Hot Lips, Radar, Winchester and Colonel Potter went home. Although the show ended perfectly, that doesn’t mean that these characters have been forgotten. It would be truly awesome to see the old gang back together again. A great premise for the show could be that this tight knit group comes together for their own reunion or to honor one of their friends, as so many veterans do. Whatever the story would be one thing is for sure, seeing those friendly faces from MASH together again on after all these years would be priceless. The cast did come back together to honor the show on its 30th anniversary which was fantastic but it was not the same as a real reboot.
