Southwestern University Description:

Founded in 1840, Southwestern University is the oldest university in Texas. The school is located in Georgetown, just north of Austin. The designation of "university" is a bit misleading, for the college got rid of its graduate programs in the second half of the twentieth century and focused on strengthening its undergraduate curriculum.

Today, Southwestern is a well-respected and highly selective liberal arts college. The school's strengths in the liberal arts and sciences have earned it a chapter of the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. The Southwestern Pirates compete in Division III athletics. Popular sports include football, soccer, track and field, swimming, and basketball.
