Discussion of Southwestern University's Admissions Standards: Roughly half of all applicants to Southwestern University will not get in. This selective private liberal arts college in Georgetown, Texas, will be looking for students who have grades and standardized test scores that are at least a little above average. In the scattergram above, the blue and green dots represent students who were accepted. You can see that the majority of successful applicants had at least "B+" averages in high school, and they had combined SAT scores of about 1100 or higher (RW+M) and ACT composite scores of 22 or higher. The majority of Southwestern students had impressive averages in the "A" range in high school. Note that there are a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) hidden behind the green and blue in the graph. Some students with grades and test scores that were on target for Southwestern did not get in. At the same time, you'll see that some students were accepted with test scores and grades that were a little below the norm. This is because Southwestern has holistic admissions and looks at more than numerical data when making admissions decisions. The university accepts The Common Application and will evaluate your application essay, extracurricular activities, and letters of recommendation.
