The Origin of the Black Costume:

Spider-Man orignally found a black costume during the Marvel limited series "Secret Wars," in which the cosmic being known as The Beyonder took many of Marvel's heroes and villains and pitted them against each other. He found it could turn into his costume and into normal clothes at a thought and it even enhanced his powers. He later learned that he costume was an symbiotic alien that wanted to fuse permantently with Peter Parker.

With the help of Reed Richards of The Fantastic Four, he was able to remove the costume with sonic weaponry and later with the help of gigantic church bells. The alien escaped and bonded with Eddie Brock and became known as the villain Venom. As Venom the villain tried again and again to kill and destroy Spider-Man, but each time he failed. When Eddie Brock sold the symbiote when he learned he had cancer. The costume eventually landed in the hands of Mac Gargan, also known as The Scorpion.

Since the finality of Marvel's Civil War, Spider-Man has donned the costume once again as a reflection of his emotional life. It can be assumed that this is also for the upcoming A href="http://comicbooks.about.com/od/comicmovies/ig/Spider-Man-3-Gallery/index.htm">Spider-Man 3 movie.
