Discussion of St. Edward's University's Admissions Standards:

Roughly a quarter of applicants to this selective Catholic university will not get in. The admissions bar is not painfully high, but St. Edward's is one of the Top Texas Colleges and Universities and you will need solid grades and standardized test scores. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. You can see that the majority of successful applicants had at least "B" averages in high school, and they had combined SAT scores of about 1000 or higher and ACT composite scores of 20 or higher. Higher grades and standardized test scores further improve your chances are of receiving an acceptance letter.

Note that there are some red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) hidden behind the green and blue in the middle of the graph. Some students with grades and test scores that were potentially on target for St. Edward's did not get in. On the flip side, you'll see that some students were accepted with test scores and grades that were below the norm. This is because St. Edward's has holistic admissions and looks at qualitative as well as quantitative factors when making admissions decisions. The university accepts The Common Application and will want to see an engaging application essay, interesting extracurricular activities, and strong letters of recommendation. The university is looking for engaged, eager and curious students who will contribute to the campus community in positive ways. Finally, be sure to write the optional supplemental essay -- St. Edward's asks some wonderfully quirky questions, so this is a great place to show off your humor and creativity.
