Stephen F. Austin State University Description:

Stephen F. Austin State University is a public university located in Nacogdoches, Texas, a town in the east of the state. Houston and Dallas are both within a three hour drive. The university is independent of Texas's many public university systems. The university offers over 80 undergraduate majors. Health and business fields are extremely popular, but the university also has robust programs in art, music, communications, psychology and many other fields. Academics are supported by an average class size of 27 and a 20 to 1 student / faculty ratio. Student life at SFA offers many opportunities for service and leadership including an active Greek system. In athletics, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks compete in the NCAA Division I Southland Conference. The university fields six men's and nine women's Division I teams.
