Discussion of Stevens's Admissions Standards:

Admission to Stevens is highly competitive, and well over half of all applicants will not get in. Most successful applicants have high school GPAs and SAT/ACT scores that are significantly above average. In the scattergram above, the blue and green dots represent students who were offered admission. Students who got in typically had SAT scores (RW+M) of 1200 or higher, an ACT composite of 26 or higher, and a high school average up in the "A" range.

You'll also notice that the red (rejected), yellow (waitlisted), blue and green dots overlap throughout much of the graph. Many students who seemed to be on target for Stevens were rejected. At the same time, some students with grades and scores a little below the norm managed to get in. This is because Stevens has holistic admissions and makes decisions based on more than numerical data. All Stevens applicants must submit two letter of recommendation as well as an application essay. Stevens also requires a college admissions interview for international applicants and students applying to the school's accelerated programs. All other applicants are strongly encouraged to do an interview. Finally, the two applications Stevens accepts -- the Stevens paper application and the Common Application -- both ask applicants about their extracurricular activities.
