SUNY Cortland has somewhat selective admissions; the school has an acceptance rate of 51%. Students can fill out an application with the SUNY system, or with the Common Application. SUNY Cortland is a public university and member of the State University of New York system located in the state's picturesque Finger Lakes region. SUNY Cortland earns high marks for its educational value for both in-state and out-of-state applicants. The university has a large and well-regarded teacher education program, but SUNY Cortland is perhaps best know for its athletic programs. The Division III Red Dragons have been extremely successful, and undergraduate programs in sport management and physical education are extremely popular.

Top sports include football, softball, soccer, tennis, track and field, swimming, and baseball.
