Discussion of SUNY Geneseo's Admissions Standards:

Geneseo is a selective public honors college in the State University of New York (SUNY) system. In 2015, 73% of applicants were admitted, but don't let that seemingly high admit rate fool you: nearly all admitted students had grades and standardized test scores that were well above average. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. The majority of successful applicants had high school averages of "B+" or better, combined SAT scores of 1200 or higher, and ACT composite scores of 25 or better. You'll have a much better chance of getting an acceptance letter with test scores above these lower numbers.

You'll see that there are quite a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue in all but the upper right corner of the graph. Quite a few students with grades and test scores that were on target for SUNY Geneseo did not get in. Note, however, that a some students were accepted with test scores and grades a bit below the norm. This is because Geneseo's admissions process is based on more than empirical data. The college accepts either the SUNY Application or the Common Application and has a holistic admissions process. The Geneseo admissions officers will be looking at the rigor of your high school courses, not just your grades. Also, the they will want to see a winning essay, interesting extracurricular activities, an engaging short answer, and strong letters of recommendation.

Note that SUNY Geneseo has an Early Decision admissions option. If the university is your first-choice school, you would be wise to take advantage of this option. Applying Early Decision is a great way to demonstrate your interest in the school, and it is likely to improve your chances of receiving an acceptance letter.
