People Who Have Won Super Bowls as Both a Player and Coach

The first team listed is the team person was with as a player. The second team listed is the team person coached.

Dwaine Board - Board was a defense end for San Francisco and played in Super Bowl XVI and XIX. When his playing career ended, he became a defensive line coach for Seattle and helped them reach Super Bowl XXIX.

Willie Brown - Brown was a cornerback for the Broncos and Raiders and played in Super Bowl XI. He continued with Oakland as an assistant coach and coached in XV and XVIII.

Matt Cavanaugh - Cavanaugh was a quarterback who played in two Super Bowls, XIX and XXV. He later became a quarterback coach and helped Baltimore reach Super Bowl XXXV as the offensive coordinator.

Mike Ditka - Ditka, the Hall of Famer, was involved in three teams who won Super Bowls. He played tight end for the Dallas Cowboys who Super Bowl VI and XII and he was with the Bears who won XX.

Tony Dungy - Dungy was the first black head coach to win a Super Bowl, leading Indianapolis to a win XLI. He was a player on the Pittsburgh Steelers team that won XIII.

Tom Flores - Flores won Super Bowls as a player, assistant coach and head coach. He was with Kansas City when the Chiefs won IV and with the Raiders when they won XI, XV and XVIII.

Tom Holmoe - Holmoe played seven years with San Francisco, including wins in Super Bowls XIX and XXIII. He was a defensive back coach when the 49ers won XXIX.

Pepper Johnson - Johnson played in the league 13 years and won two Super Bowls, XXI and XXV, with the Giants as a player. he then became an assistant with the New England Patriots and was part of three Super Bowl-winning teams under Bill Belichick, XXXVI, XXXVIII, and XXXIX.

Dan Reeves - Reeves was involved in nine Super Bowls overall. He played on two Super Bowl champions with Dallas and earned six more rings as either an assistant coach or head coach.  His four wins as a head coach were with the Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons.​

Art Shell - Shell was only the second black head coach in NFL history, after playing for the Oakland Raiders as an offensive lineman. He played on two Super Bowl-winning teams with the Raiders. He is normally associated with the Raiders, but he also coached for the Chiefs and Falcons before becoming an NFL executive.

Harry Sydney - Sydney was a running back with San Francisco when they won Super Bowls XXIII and XXIV and was with Green Bay as a running backs coach when the Packers won XXXI.

Emmitt Thomas - Thomas, not to be confused with Emmitt Smith, played for the Kansas City Chiefs when the Chiefs were in the American Football League and remained with them when they joined the NFL. He also served as an assistant coach with the Chiefs, Falcons, and Redskins. He was involved in two Super Bowl wins, one as a player and one as a coach, in IV with Kansas City and XXII and XXVI with Washington.
