Text of the First Amendment

The 1st Amendment to the US Constitution was passed by Congress on December 15, 1791 as part of the Bill of Rights. This amendment protects our most basics freedoms from undue government intrusion.

Text of the 1st Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
