Who's in the Country Music Hall of Fame?

It's the ultimate dream of any country musician: getting into the Country Music Hall of Fame. The lifetime award honors legendary singers like Hank Williams and George Jones as well as lesser known but equally important background players, including pianist Hargus "Pig" Robbins and songwriter Bobby Braddock.

History

The Hall of Fame was launched in 1961 in a less than lavish setting: the Tennessee State Museum where commemorative plaques of members were put on public display.

The awards got a permanent home on Music Row at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in 1967.

A New Building

The Hall of Fame was given a $37 million facelift in 2001 after decades of service. Located just blocks from the honkytonks and buskers of Lower Broadway, the new Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum became a Nashville landmark with its flamboyant, piano-inspired architecture. The plaques are now displayed in the institution's museum.

A Complete List of Hall of Fame Members

New members are inducted into to the Hall of Fame each year. They're selected by leaders in the industry who remain anonymous. The Hall of Fame itself has no vote and no voice in who is chosen. Here's the breakdown of who's been inducted since the inaugural year in 1961. It's not an automatic conclusion that someone will be inducted every year. In 1963, no one received sufficient votes so no new members were added.

But in other years, notably 2001, a dozen new members were inducted because they all received enough votes.
