Discussion of The Evergreen State College's Admissions Standards:

The majority of applicants to The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, are accepted. That said, you will need decent grades and standardized test scores to get in, and admitted students tend to have academic records that are at least average or better. In the graph above, the blue and green data points represent students who received acceptance letters. Most had SAT scores (RW+M) of 1000 or higher, an ACT composite of 20 or higher, and a high school average of a "B-" or higher. From the few red dots (rejected students) in the left and lower parts of the graph, you can see that your chances for admission will be better if your grades and test scores are above these lower ranges. Most Evergreen students had solid "A" and "B" averages in high school.

The Evergreen State College's application reveals that test scores and grades carry a lot of weight in the admissions process. The application does not ask about your work experience, extracurricular activities, honors or awards. That said, admissions decisions are not a simple mathematical equation. Evergreen looks at the rigor of your high school courses, not just your grades. Also, applicants are invited to submit a Personal Statement that helps demonstrate your preparedness for college. Taking advantage of this option could be particularly important for applicants whose grades or standardized test scores are on the low side. Positive letters of recommendation can also enhance an application especially for home school students. In general, the admissions folks will be looking for reasons to admit promising students, not reject them.
