The Hitman Drill for Right Hip Turn In the Golf Swing

This is a hip turn drill that has worked for me. I call it the Hitman Drill because it reminds me of a hip movement done by Chuck "The Hitman" Hiter, the golf trick-shot artist who has been featured on the Golf Channel.

Right Hip Action

Get into your proper setup stance and place the toe of your right foot (for right-handed players) across from the heel of your left foot, with your feet about shoulder-width apart. While maintaining square shoulder alignment, swing the club down the plane. You will notice that your right foot and right hip naturally roll inward, allowing the club to swing to a complete and balanced finish.

In the photo above, you can see this action represented as I place my hand on my right hip, giving the impression of my hip rolling inward.

Picturing the Motion

This is the motion illustrated when trick-shot artists, or Tiger Woods in his famous Nike commercial, throw balls into the air and hit them with their clubs. As they swing through, the right hip always moves inward. Another way to think about it is to visualize a baseball player hitting a low inside pitch. It is the same right hip action.

You should note that the right hip does not jolt out, and the club is naturally set on a nice downswing plane as the right hip turns inward. To confirm this hip action, look at your hip movement from the side in the mirror and, if done correctly, you will notice that your right side always stays behind your left.
