Thom Blackett

Thom Blackett started his automotive career 12 years ago when he was hired as a data analyst. He has been an automotive journalist since 2004, and's Auto Industry Guide since 2012.


Born a true car nut, Thom Blackett's youth was marked by Matchbox cars rather than Little League tryouts. That passion carried into adulthood, when, in 2000, Thom was hired as a Research Analyst. He spent the following three years collecting and disseminating information about every new car and truck model sold in the US.

By 2003, his employer had been acquired by Autobytel, and Thom was transferred from Boston to Irvine, California. One year later, he assumed the role of Associate Editor, and since then has been reviewing new vehicles and writing about various aspects of the automotive industry.

A desire to be closer to family led Thom to resign from Autobytel in 2008, at which time he served as Senior Road Test Editor. As a freshly minted freelance writer, Thom had the flexibility to return to New England, where he resides today. His reviews and articles have been published on,,,, and elsewhere.

As a kid, my dream job was to write about the automotive industry, from new car stats and features to the strength of an automaker's product lineup. I've been fortunate enough to fulfill that dream, and in doing so I've developed a much greater appreciation for, and understanding of, the industry as a whole. My goal is to put that knowledgeable perspective to use for my readers, providing them with timely and insightful content written in a style designed to engage rather than simply inform.
