Sunglasses help make your eyes more comfortable by reducing brightness and glare. But even when it's not bright daylight, a good pair of sunglasses glasses will adjust to low-light conditions while protecting your eyes from flying debris as you cycle. In these situations, there are three features that sunglasses need: durability, fit/comfort and quality of optics.

Tifosi Optics is a mid-range eyewear maker targeting the outdoor enthusiast, whether the activity is cycling, golf, tennis or some other sport where good vision is important.

Its glasses sell for about $70 to $80 as of June 2017, yet they are stylish, fit comfortably and are very durable.

Sturdy Construction

Tifosi's sunglasses are designed for active, aggressive use, not for sitting around the library. The metal-frame glasses, for instance, feature a rugged nickel titanium construction. This alloy has a memory feature that allows the glasses to return to their original shape when strained.

"I bought these mostly for night and dawn/dusk cycling," a consumer-reviewer noted on Amazon:  "I use my normal sunglasses for daytime hours. My quick synopsis is that these are a great value for decent quality glasses that you can use for sports without worrying much about them."

Comfortable Fit

The glasses fit comfortably, with designs that stick with the sleek and angled look versus big and boxy or round designs. Adjustable temple and nose pieces plus the stay-fit ear pad allow you to create the perfect fit, and the construction helps hold tight even when you're sweating.

They range toward the smaller side; you may want to check fit precisely if your face/head size runs to the larger end of the spectrum.

As the Amazon consumer-reviewer further noted: "The lenses conform to my face and are wide enough to keep out debris when riding through dust ... yet they vent enough that I haven't had any trouble with them fogging up."

Another consumer-reviewer on Amazon agreed: "Whoever designed these sunglasses definitely had some knowledge of human anatomy. These fit perfectly."

Optical Quality

Tifosi glasses, particularly in the style most likely to appeal to cyclists, come in a single-lens or multi-lens set-up. The Tyrant multi-lens model -- "interchange" as Tifosi calls the category -- comes with three lenses: clear, smoke (gray) and AC red. These are good choices, fitting almost all riding conditions. The lenses themselves are shatter-resistant polycarbonate, with glare reducer providing 100 percent UVA and UVB protection.

Tifosi's Fototec glasses are sold with lenses that adjust automatically as light conditions change. You can either get these in a complete pair of sunglasses as a single-lens set-up, or order the Fototech lenses separately, and include them in the choices you have for your interchangeable set of glasses.
