Top 10 Friendship Quotes for Facebook Friends Who Like Your Posts

A friend once posted a status on Facebook, "I have many friends on Facebook, but I wonder how many of them would rush to my help if I had a severe financial crisis, or an accident."

As is the culture of Facebook, she received more than 50 'likes' to her post, but nobody responded to her query. Clearly her question had put many of her friends on a back foot, as they did not want to commit to anything.

The Connected and Disconnected Feeling of Social Media Friendships

The world of social networking has a strange effect on you. It makes you feel connected to the world, and at the same time, makes you feel isolated. You can read posts, and look at pictures of your friends in distant geographical places, a feat that would have been unthinkable in the past two decades. You can connect with like-minded people whom you have 'met' online, but never in person. Your Facebook friends connect you with their circle of friends, and help you reach a wider network of friends beyond your geographical, social and cultural standing.

Yet, in a sea of Facebook friendships, many people find themselves distant with their own family members. It is now a common sight to see a family not communicating with each other despite being in the same room, because each member of the family is busy engaging with 'friends' on social media.

So Are Facebook Friends Your Real Friends?

In a 2016 study conducted by Oxford University, it was found that out of an average of 150 Facebook friends, only 4 would reach out to their friends in times of crisis. In other words, if you have 150 Facebook friends, only 4 out of them could be considered as 'true' friends, who would help you in a situation of crisis. Now, it is up to you to find out who those 4 true friends are, and strengthen the bond with more face-to-face contact, and real life connections.

What about the other 146 friends who are a part of your Facebook circle? Well, they are at best your well wishers, acquaintances, and potential business associates. They may not bail you out if you land in deep trouble, but in good times, they can help to enhance your life.

How to Use Facebook Friendships to Help You in Real Life

Most of your Facebook friends will remember to wish you on your birthday. With hundreds of birthday wishes waiting for you, does that not add joy to your life? Don't you feel special to be remembered, even if a computer program is involved in making your birthday memorable?

When you need assistance, information, references, or leads, you can use your network of Facebook friends to guide you. They are definitely better than the heavily biased propaganda or marketing information available on the Internet. I have been able to resolve many personal and professional problems with the help of my Facebook friends.

Facebook friends can also help in solving personal and social problems. Once, my friend's dog went missing after she let him off the leash in a park. Frantic and worried, my friend posted a picture of her cute dog on Facebook and asked her friends to 'share' the post of a missing dog on their Facebook wall. The post soon spread to many people, and by the end of the day, my friend found her dog sheltered by a good samaritan. That is the power of social networking.
