Top 10 Pop Songs - Summer 2011

For summer 2011 Pitbull came into his own, Adele continued to impact the charts, a duo know as LMFAO brought a worldwide smash home, and Katy Perry landed in the summer top 10 for the fourth year in a row.

One listen to Pitbull's "Give Me Everything" and it was obvious it would be one of the biggest party hits of summer 2011. In an unusual combination of cross-platform success, the song reached #1 on the Latin songs chart, top 5 on rap songs, and it was a top 20 adult pop hit as well. "Give Me Everything" also earned strong international success topping the pop singles charts in Belgium, Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, and the UK.

It was only a matter of time before LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" became the size hit in the US it was around the world. The duo had minor hit singles before "Party Rock Anthem," but nothing really prepared the world for a hit of this size. The song was a #1 pop smash from Australia to Switzerland and nearly every country in between. It ultimately spent six weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has sold over three million digital copies in the US alone. "Party Rock Anthem" has been a top 10 Latin, rap, and dance hit in the US.

Adele's "Rolling In the Deep" is clearly the biggest pop hit of the year so far in the US and much of the world. A tribute to its staying power is that it had its biggest impact in the spring but held on through the summer to earn a placing as the third biggest pop hit of summer 2011. No song in recent history has been a hit across to many radio formats. "Rolling In the Deep" reached charts from R&B to alternative to rock to dance and Latin.

Nicki Minaj had so much critical and commercial acclaim during 2010 that it seemed only a matter of time before her major pop chart breakthrough. "Super Bass" is that song.
