Discussion of Transylvania University's Admissions Standards: Transylvania University has selective admissions, and admitted students tend to have grades and standardized test scores that are at least a little above average. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent students who were accepted. Most had SAT scores of 1100 or higher, an ACT composite of 22 or higher, and a high school average of a "B" or higher. Many applicants are quite strong, and you can see that a majority of admitted students had grades up in the "A" range. If you have good grades but aren't so happy with your SAT or ACT scores, don't worry: beginning with the class entering in 2016, Transylvania University adopted a test-optional admissions policy. You will need to submit an essay, but you can decide whether or not you think your standardized test scores will strengthen your application. Keep in mind that grades and standardized test scores are just part of the admissions equation at Transylvania University. The university has holistic admissions, and whether you use the Transylvania application or the Common Application, the admissions folks will be looking for a strong application essay, meaningful extracurricular activities, and positive letters of recommendation. Also, like most selective colleges, Transylvania University takes into consideration the rigor of your high school courses, not just your grades.
