Discussion of the University of Dallas's Admissions Standards:

Although the University of Dallas has a relatively high high acceptance rate (about two-thirds of all applicants get in), students are self-selecting and tend to have grades and standardized test scores that are above average. In the scattergram above, the blue and green dots represent students who were accepted. You can see that the majority of students who got in had high school GPAs of "B+" or higher, and they had combined SAT scores of about 1100 or higher and ACT composite scores of 22 or higher. Many University of Dallas students had solid "A" averages in high school.

Admission to this highly ranked Catholic university, however, is not based entirely upon grades and test scores. This explains why some students with grades and/or test scores that were below average were admitted. The university uses The Common Application and has holistic admissions (note that the ApplyTexas application is also an option). The admissions folks will take into consideration your personal statement, extracurricular activities, and letters of recommendation. The university requires a recommendation from your high school counselor, and you have the option of providing a second letter from a teacher. The additional letter is a good idea if one of your teachers knows you well and will be able to speak about your potential for success in college.

As with nearly all selective colleges and universities, the rigor of your high school curriculum and success in college preparatory classes will be the most important part of your application. Getting high grades in advanced Placement, IB, and dual enrollment classes is one sure way to show the University of Dallas that you are academically prepared for the challenges of college. You can further improve your chances of admission by applying through the university's Early Action option. Admit rates tend to be higher when applying early, and doing so is an excellent way to demonstrate your interest in the university.

Note that while the University of Dallas is affiliated with the Catholic Church, the school welcomes applicants from all backgrounds.
