Discussion of the University of Detroit Mercy's Admissions Standards:

The admissions bar for the University of Detroit Mercy isn't overly high, but students will need a solid academic record to get in. A little over one-quarter of all applicants are not admitted. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent students who won admission. Most had SAT scores (RW+M) of 950 or higher, an ACT composite of 18 or higher, and a high school average of a "B-" or better. Your chances will be best with an ACT composite of 21 or better. The school does attract a significant percentage of students who had high school grades in the "A" range.

Some students with grades and test scores below the norm succeed in being accepted to the University of Detroit Mercy. This is because the university has holistic admissions and makes decisions based on more than numbers. The UDM application asks about your extracurricular activities and honors, and it also requires you to submit a writing sample of at least 250 words. And like most colleges, UDM looks at the rigor of your high school courses, so success in AP, IB and Honors courses will strengthen your application. Finally, the university asks for a teacher or counselor recommendation. Make sure you ask for a recommendation from someone who knows your academic potential well and can speak to your ability to succeed with college-level work.

Students with grades in the "B" range are typically admitted to the university's College of Liberal Arts and Education, College of Business Administration, College of Health Professions, or School of Nursing. The university's College of Engineering and School of Architecture are more selective, and you're most likely going to need grades and SAT/ACT scores quite a bit higher than the lower ranges mentioned above.
