Discussion of the University of Maine's Admissions Standards:

In 2015, 91% of applicants to the University of Maine were accepted, but don't be complacent because of the high acceptance rate: successful applicants will need solid grades and standardized test scores. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent students who were admitted. Most had SAT scores of 950 or higher, an ACT composite of 18 or higher, and a high school average of a "B-" or better. Grades and test scores above these lower ranges will improve your chances, and you can see that many admitted students had grades in the "A" range.

Note that there are a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue in the middle of the graph. This means that a few students with grades and test scores that were on target for the University of Maine did not get get in. Note also that a few students were accepted with test scores and grades a bit below the norm. This is because the University of Maine has holistic admissions and makes decisions based on more than numbers. Whether you use the University of Maine application or the Common Application, the admissions folks will be looking for a strong application essay, meaningful extracurricular activities, and a positive letter of recommendation. Also, the University of Maine takes into consideration the rigor of your high school courses, so those AP and IB classes can strengthen your application.
