Discussion of the University of New England's Admissions Standards: Roughly four out of five applicants to the University of New England will be admitted, but even with the high acceptance rate, successful applicants tend to have solid grades and standardized test scores. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent students who won admission. Most had SAT scores of 950 or higher (RW+M), an ACT composite of 18 or higher, and a high school average of a "B-" or better. Grades and test scores a little above these lower ranges will improve your chances, and you can see that many admitted students had grades in the "A" range. You'll notice in the graph a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue. Some students with grades and test scores that were on target for UNE did not get get in. Note also that a few students were accepted with test scores and grades a bit below the norm. This is because the University of New England has holistic admissions and makes decisions based on more than numerical data. Whether you use the UNE application or the Common Application, the admissions folks will be looking for a strong application essay, meaningful extracurricular activities, and positive letters of recommendation. Also keep in mind that UNE strongly encourages students to visit campus and, if they wish, to do an optional interview. Both are good ways to demonstrate your interest.
