The admission process is holistic and includes a 300+ word essay and a letter of recommendation from your school counselor. Since it first opened its doors, the university has taken pride in providing equal access to education without consideration of race, color, or sex. The 123-acre campus (with another 162-acre Nature Center) is located in Alliance, Ohio, a small city of 25,000 people located roughly midway between Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Despite it's name as a "university," the school has a largely undergraduate focus and has the feel of a traditional liberal arts college. Students hail from 31 states and 13 countries, although the majority come from the region. Mount Union is a residential campus with active student life. The university has over 80 student organizations as well as an active Greek scene. The university is home to four sororities and four fraternities. Athletics are a big deal at Mount Union, and the school's Purple Raiders compete in the NCAA Division III Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Mount Union has had notable success in several sports including football and track & field.
