Discussion of University of Scranton's Admissions Standards:

Although the University of Scranton has a fairly high acceptance rate around 75%, the university attracts strong students. Successful applicants tend to have grades and standardized test scores that are at least a little above average. In the graph above, the blue and green data points indicate students who were admitted to the University of Scranton. Most had combined SAT scores (RW+M) of 1050 or higher, an ACT composite of 21 or higher, and a high school average of a "B" or better. Your chances will improve significantly if your grades and test scores are above these lower ranges, and you can see that a significant percentage of admitted students had grades up in the "A" range. Realize that Scranton has a test-optional admission option, so applicants can submit graded high school essays instead of SAT or ACT scores. An interview may be required as well.

Note that there are some red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue in the middle of the graph. This tells us that some students with grades and test scores that were on target for the University of Scranton were not admitted. You can also see that a few students were admitted with grades and standardized test scores that are a bit below the norm. This is because University of Scranton has holistic admissions and works to get to know the whole applicant, not just the applicant's numerical data. Whether you use the Scranton Application or the Common Application, the admissions folks will be looking for a strong application essay, meaningful extracurricular activities, and positive letters of recommendation. Also, the University of Scranton, like all selective colleges, takes into consideration the rigor of your high school courses, not just your grades. Success in AP, IB and Dual Enrollment courses can play a positive role in the evaluation of your application.
