Located in the northwest corner of Ohio near the Michigan border, the University of Toledo is one of Ohio's 13 state universities. Detroit is about an hour away, and Cincinnati and Fort Wayne are within two hours. In 2006, the University of Toledo merged with the Medical University of Ohio, and now UT has many excellent undergraduate and graduate programs in the health sciences.

High achieving students should check out the UT Honors Program with its emphasis on undergraduate research. The university takes pride in its diversity, and it has been listed as one of the 100 best colleges for African-American students. In athletics, the UT Rockets compete in the NCAA Division I Mid-American Conference.
