Discussion of the University of the Pacific's Admissions Standards: About a third of applicants to the University of the Pacific will receive rejection letters, and successful applicants tend to have strong academic records with above average grades and standardized test scores. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent students who were admitted. Most had SAT scores (RW+M) of 1000 or higher, an ACT composite of 20 or higher, and a high school average of a "B" or higher. If your grades and test scores are above these lower ranges, your chances of admission will obviously increase. A significant percentage of admitted students are solid "A" students. You'll see that there are some red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue throughout the graph. This means that some students with grades and test scores that were on target for the University of the Pacific did not succeed in being admitted. Note also that a few students were accepted with test scores and grades a bit below the norm. These seeming inconsistencies in the admissions standards are typical of selective colleges. The University of the Pacific has holistic admissions, and admissions decisions are based on more than numerical data. Whether you use the Common Application or the University of the Pacific's own application, important parts of your application include a personal statement (encouraged but not required), details about your extracurricular activities, honors and awards you have earned, and your employment history. The University of the Pacific, like all selective colleges, takes into consideration the rigor of your high school courses, not just your grades, so those AP, IB, Dual Enrollment, and Honors courses all play a positive roll in your application.
