Discussion of University of Toledo's Admissions Standards:

The great majority of applicants to the University of Toledo will get in as you can see by all the blue and green data points (representing accepted students) in the graph above. This is not to say that the university does not attract strong students--you'll note that many "A" students attend Toledo, and the university's Jesup Scott Honors College offers special programs to challenge them.

The university's high acceptance rate does not mean that everyone can be admitted. The university has minimum requirements of a 2.5 GPA, a 15 ACT score, and a 830 SAT score (RW+M). Students with grades and/or scores below these minimums can still apply, but their applications will be reviewed thoroughly to find evidence of college readiness. Students not meeting the minimum requirement will also need to submit an appeal form to explain why they think they will be successful at the university. Students who do not meet minimum requirements or who do not know what college or major they want may be admitted to YouCollege's Department of Exploratory Studies.

Some programs at the University of Toledo have much higher admissions standards than the rest of the university. For example, students interested in Pre-Med, Pre-Dent and Pre-Vet concentrations need to have a 3.2 GPA and a 25 composite ACT score or 1220 SAT (RW+M). The Bac/M.D. program is even more selective and requires a 3.5 GPA and 28 composite ACT or 1320 SAT (RW+M). Business Administration, Engineering, Exercise Science, Nursing, and Education also have entrance requirements that are more stringent than the university as a whole. Be sure to check out the most up-to-date requirements at the University of Toledo admissions website.

In general, admission to the University of Toledo is based on grades and test scores. The process is holistic primarily for borderline applicants who need to prove their college readiness based on factors other than GPA/ACT/SAT. The university's application does not ask for an essay, information about extracurricular activities, or letters of recommendation. As with nearly all colleges, however, the rigor of your high school courses matters, and the university will want to see that you have taken college preparatory courses in high school.
