Today's Inspiring Thought: Hearing From God

In this verse, the Lord invites us to come to him with a listening ear. It says, "Hear, that your soul may live." So, how exactly do we hear from God?

Unless you're Moses, of course, you may find this whole business of hearing from God a bit perplexing.

Yet, there are a few keys to training your ear to hear God's voice. It begins with being quiet. We can't hear if we're talking, especially if God chooses to speak in a still, small voice.

And to hear God's still small voice, we typically have to get alone with him. In his book, Victorious Christian Living, Pastor Alan Redpath stresses the necessity of being alone with God:

If a man would walk with God, if a man would live a holy life, if a man would assume authority and hold it down, because God holds him down, he has to know what it is to pay the price of a closed door - sometimes even his family are on the other side--for no Christian leader is more effective in his leadership than when he is alone with God, on his knees... For the greatest transactions of a man's experience are made, not in a church, but behind closed doors.

My own pastor often says, "If we don't learn to hear God in the quiet place, we won't hear Him in the noise."

To develop your listening-to-God skills, here's another resource that might help: How to Hear God's Voice.
