Data courtesy of Cappex. Discussion of the Virginia Military Institute's Admissions Standards VMI is a public military college located in Lexington, Virginia. The institute has selective admissions, and roughly half of all applicants will get in. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. You can see that the majority of successful applicants had high school GPAs of "B" or better, combined SAT scores of about 1100 or higher, and ACT composite scores of 22 or better. You'll notice that some students were rejected (red dots) and waitlisted (yellow dots) even though their grades and test scores were potentially on target for admission to VMI. This is because the school has holistic admissions and considers more than numerical data. The admissions folks will be looking to see that you have taken challenging high school courses, and they will also want to see meaningful extracurricular activities and positive letters of reference. You can also improve your chances by doing the optional (but highly recommended) personal statement and interview. Finally, because VMI is a Senior Military College, students must also submit satisfactory medical and dental reports to ensure they can handle the rigorous physical requirements of the school.
