With an acceptance rate around 30 percent, Wake Forest University is one of the more selective test-optional colleges in the country. Nearly all successful applicants have grades that are well above average, and although students do not need to submit SAT or ACT scores, those numbers tend to be above average as well.

If you choose to submit your ACT or SAT score, it must be submitted directly from the testing agency. They will accept either old or new SAT scores and will consider the highest section scores from any sitting on the same version of the SAT to form the highest composite score.

You can apply via the Wake Forest application online, and online or by mail using the Common Application or the Coalition for Access, Affordability, and Success Application.

In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. As you can see, most accepted students had averages in the "A" range. Applicants don't need to worry about standardized test scores, but you can see that the typical accepted student had an SAT score (RW+M) of 1200 or higher and an ACT score of 26 or higher.

Keep in mind that there are a significant number of yellow dots (waitlisted students) and a few red dots (rejected students) mixed in with the green and blue up in the "A" range of the graph. Some students with grades that were on target for Wake Forest did not get in. Note also that a few students were accepted grades below the norm. This is because Wake Forest, like many of the country's most selective colleges, has holistic admissions and uses the Common Application. The folks in the admissions office are interested in much more than raw numbers. Rigorous high school courses, strong extracurricular involvement, glowing letters of recommendation, and a winning application essay are all important parts of a successful Wake Forest application.
