Wartburg College Description:

Wartburg College is a private liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Established in 1852, the college has moved several times in its history because of shifts in Lutheran immigration. The college has called Waverly, Iowa, its home since 1935. The 118-acre campus has seen twelve new buildings constructed since 1990, and enrollment is near an all-time high.

Wartburg wins high marks for its community service efforts, student engagement and value. The school frequently ranks highly among Midwestern colleges, and it has an impressive retention and graduation rate in relation to the student profile. Wartburg has notable strengths in the biological sciences. Academics at the school are supported by a 11 to 1 student / faculty ratio and an average class size of 21. Wartburg students do well after graduation. The college has a 98% job and graduate school placement rate. Placement for medical school and health-programs is particularly strong. Student life at Wartburg is active; about 450 students participate in music, and 600 in athletics. The Wartburg Knights compete in the NCAA Division III Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The college fields ten men's and ten women's intercollegiate sports.
