Discussion of West Chester University's Admissions Standards

West Chester University of Pennsylvania has moderately selective admissions, and roughly half of all applicants will not get in. Most students who receive acceptance letters have high school grades and standardized test scores that are at least a little above average. In the scattergram above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. The great majority had combined SAT scores (RW+M) of 1000 or higher, an ACT composite score of 20 or higher, and an unweighted high school average of "B" or better. Grades and test scores above these lower ranges will significantly increase your chances of being admitted, and you can see that a large percentage of accepted students had grades up in the "A" range.

On the left side of the graph you'll see quite a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue. This tells us that some applicants who were potentially on target for West Chester University did not get get in. You'll also observe a few accepted students who had grades and test scores below the norm. This is because West Chester University has holistic admissions and the admissions folks work to evaluate the whole applicant, not just plug numbers into an equation. The application includes a personal statement, and your involvement in meaningful extracurricular activities can strengthen your application. Also, some programs at West Chester University have additional requirements: music applicants must audition, art students must submit a portfolio, and several health-related fields require an interview. Finally, West Chester University, like most selective colleges, takes into consideration the rigor of your high school courses, not just your grades.

Note that West Chester University does not require letters of recommendation.
