Discussion of WVU's Admissions Standards

West Virginia University admits more than four out of every five applicants, but you're still going to need solid grades and standardized test scores to get an acceptance letter. In the graph above, the green and blue dots represent accepted students. As you can see, the majority of students who got in had a GPA of 2.5 or higher, an SAT score (RW+M) above 950, and an ACT composite score of 18 or higher. Grades above this lower range will improve your chances measurably.

The most important parts of your West Virginia University application are a strong academic record and good SAT scores or ACT scores. The WVU admissions process is largely numeric rather than holistic. Note, however, that many programs at West Virginia have higher admissions standards than the university as a whole. Business, Engineering, Medicine, Nursing, and other programs all have a higher bar than we find with general admission.
