What is a Master's Degree (MA and MS)?

Definition:

A Master’s degree in Arts and Sciences. M.A. is a masters degree in Arts and an M.S. is a masters degree in Science. An advanced graduate degree that is research and theory based. A thesis is not required for a Masters degree but an individual can conduct research. Some programs are coursework oriented and some are research based but most are a mixture of the two. Masters can be acquired in any field of study.

M.A. and M.S. are the two most common Master degrees.

Other Types of Master Degrees:

Master of Fine Arts (MFA), Master of Education (M.Ed.), Masters of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Music (MMus), Master of Social Work (MSW), etc.
