What's on TV Wednesday Nights - A Guide to Wednesday Night Television Dramas

From superheros and demons to country music stars and forensic dramas, Wednesday nights are as exciting as ever. About half the night is devoted to reality television and TV comedies, but the remainder of the night is as competitive as ever as each of the networks have something completely different to offer fans.

8:00 p.m. - 'Arrow' (The CW)

For decades, comic book fans kept up with the legendary character Green Arrow and television fans met him in the form of Justin Hartley in the CW's (and WB) longest running series , but the network is taking the story in a whole new direction with this fabulous and action-packed superhero series. Five years ago, billionaire Oliver Queen was in a boating accident that left everyone dead, including his father. Right before his father died (he committed suicide) he told Oliver about all the terrible things that needed to be righted in his city. During his time on the island, Oliver transformed into a weapon and has decided to take action against all the criminals in Starling City... by himself. Little does he know that one of the worst of the bunch happens to be his own mother, who orchestrated the boating accident in the first place.

For years, viewers can't seem to get enough of the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU), a team of criminal profilers each armed with different areas of expertise that help catch the worst criminals in the country. Their main goal is capturing serial killers by utilizing each team member's area of specialty to put together the pieces of a complicated puzzle and getting the bad guy (or girl) in the end. More »

9:00 p.m. - 'Law & Order: SVU' (NBC)

The franchise has been a staple in the crime drama genre for more than twenty years. In this particular procedural drama, the cases concentrate on sexually-based offenses. The first half tells the story of the crime and how the detectives find the perpetrator and the second half is about prosecuting the criminals. In the end, the bad guy usually goes down -- but not always.

9:00 p.m. - 'Supernatural' (The CW)

since they were little boys and their mother taken from them, Sam and Dean Winchester were surrounded by supernatural elements. Their father hunted down demons in hopes of finding out what happened to his wife years ago. Soon, the boys follow in their father's footsteps to rid the world of ghosts, demons and even the devil himself.

10:00 p.m. - 'Nashville' (ABC)

Thanks to shows such as and , the music drama genre entered our living rooms. This series follows country music legend Rayna Jaymes who was once at the top of the charts, but is slowly making her way down the ladder to make room for Juliette Barnes, a young singer climbing her way to fame. Rayna is determined to stay at the top of her game, but it's going to have to come at a price.

10:00 p.m. - 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation' (CBS)

It was the show that started the forensic crime drama genre and although half of the original cast has moved on to other projects, the cast consists of film and television veterans that include Ted Danson and Elizabeth Shue. In this crime drama, detectives use high-tech equipment and technology to analyze evidence left behind at crime scenes to try and track down the suspect.

10:00 p.m. - 'Chicago Fire' (NBC)

Years ago, NBC brought us Third Watch and now we have this series about the Firefighters, Rescue Squad and Paramedics of Chicago Firehouse 51 who stare down danger on a daily basis. When an accident claims one of their own, the group dynamic changes and everybody is on edge and not the solid team they once were. If you've ever wondered what these brave men and women go through, tune in and get hooked.
