Discussion of Wheaton College's Admissions Standards In the graph above, the green and blue dots represent students who received acceptance letters. Most had combined SAT scores (RW+M) of 1100 or higher, and ACT composite score of 22 or higher, and a a high school average of "B" or better. You'll notice that a significant percentage of applicants had solid "A" grades. Realize that Wheaton College has test-optional admissions, so your ACT and SAT scores really don't matter much. Wheaton College, like all selective liberal arts colleges, has holistic admissions and makes decisions based on more than empirical data such as grades and test scores. The admissions folks want to get to know the entire applicant. Applicants have a choice of the Wheaton Freshman Application or the Common Application, but either way the college will be looking for a strong application essay, meaningful extracurricular activities, and positive letters of recommendation. Also, Wheaton College takes into consideration the rigor of your high school courses, not just your grades. Your AP, IB, Honors and/or Dual Enrollment classes can all play a positive roll in the admissions process. Success in these courses are one of the best measures of your college readiness. Also, because Wheaton is test-optional, they look for other ways to evaluate applicants and encourage them to send along a graded copy of an analytical or research-based essay from high school. Applicants with artistic talents can also submit a portfolio. Finally, you can further strengthen your application by doing an optional interview. Wheaton College offers both Early Decision and Early Action options. If you know that Wheaton is your first-choice school, Early Decision is the best way to demonstrate your interest in the school, and it is likely to improve your chances of being admitted. If you aren't 100% sure, Early Action is still an excellent option for showing your interest and getting an admission decision early.
