How Is the Date of All Saints Day Determined?

All Saints Day is a very ancient feast, with its roots in the fourth century, when the Church generally celebrated it during the Easter season. The current date of November 1 extends back to the eighth century when Pope Gregory III moved the feast to that date for the diocese of Rome.

In the ninth century, Pope Gregory IV ordered the entire Church to celebrate All Saints Day on November 1.
