Whittier College Description

Whittier College is a private liberal arts college located in Whittier, California. It is one of many colleges in the Los Angeles area, and downtown is about half an hour away from the school's attractive 74 acre campus. Whittier was founded by Quakers in 1887, although today it is a secular institution. Whitter students can choose from 30 majors, and the most popular fields span the liberal arts and sciences. Academics are supported by a 12 to 1 student / faculty ratio. Students come from 40 states and 25 countries. Student life is active with over 60 clubs and organizations. On the athletic front, the Whittier Poets compete in the NCAA Division III Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC). The college fields 11 men's and 10 women's varsity sports.
