The Shakespeare Authorship Debate has been raging for years – mainly fuelled by a distinct lack of documentary evidence on both sides. Essentially, various groups of scholars over the years have attempted to debunk William Shakespeare, the son of a glove maker from Stratford-upon-Avon, as the real author of the plays and sonnets.

The most likely candidate (other that Shakespeare himself!) is Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford.
