William Shakespeare is famous for his plays – after all, he gave us Hamlet, Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet! Undoubtedly, the world’s greatest playwright is William Shakespeare. How many plays did he write?

The number that most historians arrive at is 38 plays, but a prominent publisher of Shakespeare’s plays has now released a new title into their collection.

Following many years of research, Double Falsehood has now been published under the name of William Shakespeare, although it is believed that he wrote it in collaboration with another writer.

If one accepts that Double Falsehood was indeed written by Shakespeare, then the total number of plays now stands at 39.
