Winona State University is a public university located in Winona, Minnesota, a small city in the southeastern corner of the state. The campus sits between Lake Winona and the Mississippi River. Founded in 1858, Winona State is the oldest institution in the Minnesota state university system. The university has a 19 to 1 student / faculty ratio and an average class size of 26. Undergraduates can choose from 65 academic programs, and professional fields such as nursing, education, communications and business are all popular with students. In athletics, most teams of the Winona State Warriors compete in the NCAA Division II Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
