Even with well over 5,000 students, WSSU maintains a healthy student/faculty ratio of 14 to 1. Campus life is active and includes a long list of student organizations, club sports, intramural sports, and Adventure Trips consisting of things such as white water rafting, skiing, and horseback riding. WSSU is a member of the NCAA Division II Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and in 1967 they became the first Historically Black College or University (HBCU) to win an NCAA basketball championship. WSSU is particularly proud of its campus fitness programs which are supported by cardio or fitness suites in many of the residence halls and the state-of-the-art Donald L. Evans Fitness Center.
